New Faces....and Stormy Days

Dear Family and Friends,

Chuck and I have been contacted by readers of this blog over the past few months asking to meet for coffee or dinner. This past week alone we have received several emails from readers telling us they were in Cuenca to check it out as a place to retire. We are always glad to meet them and again, we were happy to meet these new people and get to know them.

We met Juergen and Louise for coffee. They are from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Juergen told us that his father, who is from Germany, reads our blog and translates it to German. How wonderful! This picture is for you Dad.

Another friend, Mark, has already rented a condo here in Cuenca. He and his wife, Connie will be moving from Pennsylvania to Cuenca in June. We had a great visit together. Connie is blogging about their experiences moving to Cuenca and you can read it by clicking here.

Another couple we met last week were Ray and his wife, Maryse. They are currently living in Houston, Texas. Here is Ray and Chuck at the Inca Real. We enjoyed getting to know Ray and Maryse and look forward to seeing them in Cuenca again soon.

We are meeting new friends every week who have already moved to Cuenca. Here is a picture of Bill and Dean with Chuck, Nancy and Rich at the Kookaburra cafe enjoying breakfast yesterday morning. They also have a blog about their Cuenca adventures. You can read it by clicking here.

After a very dry start to the rainy season, we are finally getting the much needed rain. Just this past week we had two terrible thunderstorms with torrential rain and hail. It seems like mother nature is trying to make up for her slow start.

Here is a picture of it pouring down on our patio.

Here is the hail. Enough came down that it looked like snow around the plants.

Here is Chuck in the basement of our building unclogging the drain.

Saturday, during the second storm, we were a little worried because we were invited to dinner by Barbara and Howard. Fortunately, the storm ended before we had to leave for their house. As we walked along the river I noticed that despite the downpour the river was still in it's banks.

Not taking any chances, Chuck looked like Sherlock Holmes, as we walked to have dinner with Barbara and Howard.

The only damage we suffered was hail damage to our plants on the patio. They will quickly recover. Some of our friends were not so fortunate.

Big Hug,
Nancy

  1. Hi Nancy,

I was thinking of you today and wondering if you were affected by the earthquake in Chile. But it looks like you are doing just fine.

I love seeing your pictures, but wish there were more of you - I do miss your smiling face!

Glad you and Chuck are doing so well.

    Love,
    Frances

  2. Thanks Nancy and Chuck for hosting Mark! He loved his visit with you and called me right away afterwards! It's wonderful to see a picture of him as he has been unable to send any via his laptop. Your official title should be, "Cuenca Goodwill Amassadors!" You two are amazing and I can't wait to meet you in person!

    HUGS, HUGS, HUGS!

  3. Hi, I had another suggestion for you guys to do during the week, maybe you already know this, but every thursday from 8:30pm - 9:30pm in parque Santo Domingo there are cultural events happenings, mostly music concerts or dance demonstrations, extremely entertaining and you guys should give it a try.
