We flew to Nanning, China and we were met by our guide. He dropped us at our hotel and told us he would pick us up in the morning at 8 am. We were up early, had the Chinese breakfast at the hotel...ugh (no more western style breakfasts for us until we leave China.)
On the agenda for today was a trip to the rock paintings of Hua mountain and then on to Longzhou for the night.
Here is Chuck, being dwarfed by the sign, proclaiming Haushan murals as a World Heritage site. It was made a World Heritage site in June of 2016, so the sign was quite new.
This young girl was our tour guide for this boat trip. She only spoke Chinese. There are not many English speaking tourists in this part of China.
We went by boat up the river to the site of the murals.
The boat trip was just as exciting to me as seeing the ancient rock paintings. I took so many pictures of the people that live on the river. So many people that live on boats and fish for a living.

The scenery was very nice. In this picture you will notice a hole or cave at the top of the cliff. Our guide told us that the ancient people used to bury their dead loved ones in these holes. How they got the bodies up there, he didn't know.
The green covered mountains are unique to this part of China and they can also be found in Viet Nam.
We finally arrive at the ancient paintings on the side of the cliff. We learned that a recent carbon dating suggests that the oldest of the paintings are 16,000 years old, making some of them much older than originally thought.
