Chuck and I spent a few days in my hometown of Columbus, Georgia. We had a wonderful time visiting relatives. Last Thursday we flew here to Puerto Rico to visit our daughter, Kylie and grandson, Bryce. I have pictures from both legs of this trip but am having difficulty getting them from my camera to the blog.
Chuck and I fly back to Seattle this Wednesday and we will spend the weekend in Seattle at a family picnic.
After we arrive home, I will have the means to get the pictures onto the blog. So you should be able to read and SEE our trip by Tuesday, September 2.
Our Adventures Moving to and Living in Ecuador ....we went to visit Ecuador, fell in love with Cuenca and decided to relocate there.

Texas and Minnesota
My brother and sister-in-law left Saturday morning to fly to Copenhagen. They are cruising the Baltic. Chuck and I are staying in Dallas with my mother until they return in two weeks.
It is very hot here - over 100 degrees...so we are looking at what we can do to keep cool.
We went to the Choctaw casino on Monday. Choctaw is a casino located just across the Oklahoma border. My mother loves playing the slots so we decided to take her. It is about 150 miles round trip. We learned that the casino has a bus that provides free transportation from Dallas on the weekdays. We made reservations and off we went. My mother won $475. Good job!!
Mom and Chuck boarding the bus to Choctaw.

We decided it was too hot to stay in Dallas. We packed our suitcases and headed for Minnesota on Thursday. Our daughter, son in law and nine grandchildren live in Elk River. It took us two days to get there. We spent Saturday and Sunday visiting them. Then returned back to Dallas, arriving Tuesday evening.
Here is a picture I took of Dallas as we drove out of town.

Mom made the best back seat passenger. She was so happy to be going on a road trip.

We spent Saturday and Sunday in Elk River. We went to the county fair and enjoyed the kids as they enjoyed water activities.
The adult cheering section....whimps we were not to get wet.
Merri and Ken have seven girls and two boys.
This is the youngest.....Raven Leigh. She has grown so much since we saw her in April.

My mom loves little babies and enjoyed holding her very much.
We drove back to Dallas on Monday and Tuesday. We were happy to find that it had cooled down into the 90s.
On Thursday we took the bus back up to Choctaw. None of us brought back any winnings this time.
Here is mom and Chuck clowning around while we waited for the casino bus.

Today is Friday and Norman and Nan are returning from their cruise today.
Sunday, Chuck and I will fly to Georgia to visit family there.

Chinook Pass and Seattle Washington
Last Tuesday, Chuck and I drove to Seattle. We took I85 to Yakima, Washington and then we left the freeway and went to Seattle over the Cascade mountains via Chinook pass. The weather was overcast and a bit on the chilly side. The scenery was excellent.

Chuck inspecting the cherries...

Aplets and Cotlets are a favorite candy treat from this part of Washington. They are made by a company located near Wenatchee Washington. These candies are similar to Turkish Delight.

We stopped along the way and enjoyed the scenery. Too bad we did not have fishing gear.

The wildflowers and mountain scenery was at it's usual best. Fog covered the top of the pass.

We finally made it to Seattle. This is a view from Alki beach looking over the Elliot Bay to the city.

We are now in Dallas, Texas visiting with my mom. The contrast in weather is staggering. It has been over 100 degrees here since we arrived. We will be here for two weeks mother and house sitting while my brother and sister-in-law are on vacation. We will take mom with us to Minnesota to visit our kids and grandkids during these two weeks. I will share that trip with you along the way.
Just past Yakima in Naches, Washington we stopped at a fruit stand to take some fruit to Chuck's folks.

Selling our Books
Chuck and I gathered up many of our books and took them 350 miles (round trip) to Portland, Oregon. We love Portland and decided taking the books to sell to Powell's Book Store would be a good excuse to get away.

We loaded up our car trunk and back seat with 16 boxes of books. Two boxes we sold at the main book store and when they found out how many books we had, they suggested we take the rest to their warehouse.

We made enough money from selling the books to pay for our gas, hotel and entertainment in Portland. We are starting to feel lighter.
I have been busy this past month selling things on ebay.

Tuesday, we are off to Seattle to visit family. From there, we will fly to Dallas, TX on Thursday and spend a couple of weeks with my mom. Then on to Georgia....more family.....and finally to Puerto Rico to visit our daughter and grandson. We will be gone the whole month of August.
We have given away a ton to Goodwill and other items to friends. We still have many things to dispose of yet.
I have many items that I will post on ebay in September.
As Chuck says...."Every little bit counts."

One Chance in a Million!
As part of our moving to Ecuador, Chuck and I read the Ecuador Forums every day. This is a site where you can talk with others who actually live in Ecuador already or are planning to possibly relocate some time in the future. The link is a great place for getting questions answered.
The other day I was reading this site and saw that a person, Bob Wilson, had introduced himself from Washington state. Another reader posted our blog for him to read since we too are from Washington and are moving to Cuenca.
Sunday night Chuck and I received a phone call from Bob. He had been to our blog and was surprised to find that we live in the same town. Since Richland is a town of about 35,000 people, this is quite a coincidence.
What is really a coincidence is that Bob and his wife, Sonia live only on the next block. Yes, we are in hollering distance of each other.
Bob and Sonia came over tonight and we exchanged our ideas about Ecuador, Mexico (Sonia's home country) and retirement abroad in general.
We have other friends, Randy and Karen, from Richland who are planning on retiring in Cuenca also. We hope to be getting us all together soon.
Here is a picture of Chuck, Sonia and Bob as we visited this evening.

Goodness! Would the last person to leave Richland for retirement elsewhere please turn out the lights!
