Like I said in my last post, since we did not have a Russian visa, we were not free to wander around the city. Therefore the pictures below were all taken from a tour bus. The quality is not good but, as they say, it is what it is.
The first few pictures are of beautiful churches. After the revolution, these large churches were turned into skating arenas, swimming pools and other things that required large space and would be used by anyone.
Now they are all restored and are museums.
Below is a picture of one of the first major businesses to come to Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
St Petersburg has may canals running through the old town and is dubbed by some as the Venice of the north.
The picture below is part of the Hermitage. It was in this palace that the Tzar Nicholas, and his family, were kidnapped in 1917 as the revolution began.
As part of our organized tour we took a cruise on the river in one of these boats.
This boat is a hydrofoil. It is a speedy way to get to Peterhof, Peter the Great's summer residence. Notice the upcoming G20 Summit advertisement on the side of the boat.
Being in St. Petersburg again was great but we sure felt like our wings were clipped.
Our next stop is Tallinn, Estonia.
