Belfast, Northern Ireland

Dear Family and Friends,

Our next port was Belfast, Northern Ireland.  Belfast was where the ship, Titanic, was built.  They have a large museum about the ship, how it was built and what it was like inside and what it was like to be a passenger.  This was the main thing we intended to do while there.

We took a shuttle from our ship into the city of Belfast.  After having coffee and checking our internet, we walked around the beautiful city hall.  Here are some pictures of some of the statues out front.

This statue is in honor of Belfast citizens who fought in the Boer war in South Africa.

This monument is a memorial to the Titanic.

In front of city hall is a statue of Queen Victoria.

I don't know who this poor guy is, but I don't think the pigeons think much of him.

This is a nice covered shopping area.

After lunch we walked to the Titanic museum.  On the way we saw the Prince Albert clock tower,

and a large blue fish.

After about a 45 minute hike, we finally made it to the museum.  The museum is dedicated in memory of the Titanic and its tragic end. It opened in early 2012, just in time for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship.

Although I do not have pictures of the inside, I will share a picture they took of us as we went into the exhibit.

The exhibit was fascinating.  They had mock ups of the first class suites, the second class rooms and even the third class.  The ship was luxurious.  It even had an elevator inside. 

We saw very little of the city of Belfast, but we did accomplish the main thing we wanted to do there.
