Dunedin NZ and surrounding area

Dear Family and Friends,

Dunedin is the second largest city on the South Island of New Zealand.  It is a lovely university city and there is so much to see that we are spending a couple of days here.

Yesterday we walked into town and enjoyed gawking.

Lovely Anglican church with statue of Robert Burns in the foreground.

And here is the most photographed train station in New Zealand.

Yesterday afternoon we took a drive out on the peninsular for some fantastic views.

From our high vantage point we could see the bay off to one side and the ocean off the other.

We saw sheep

In fact, whole hillsides of sheep.

We saw some very interesting water fowl.

A lot of sea gulls....

 Chuck enjoying the view.

Today we are taking a scenic train ride out of the train depot pictured above.  I will share about that at another time.

Love,
Nancy

  1. Looks amazing. Are you guys planning any Lord of the Rings sightseeing, like the Hobbiton set in Matamata?

  2. Steph, We watched the Lord of the Rings and the latest Hobbit movie as part of the preparation for this trip. I really wanted to see Hobbiton but we just did not have time when we were on the North Island. Sorry that we will be missing it.
