This photo was taken near Canar, Ecuador.  A horse grazing in the field off the highway.  He is wearing a wooden saddle, which is a common saddle here.

Are you old enough to remember Premier Nikita Khrushchev?  He lead the Soviet Union during the cold war period.  He was famous for taking off his shoe and pounding it on his desk at the U.N.

DON'T MISS THE BOAT

Chuck and I took our very first cruise back in 1999.  We went with his parents on a cruise of the Black Sea. The main purpose was to see the total eclipse of the sun on August 11 of that year.

The picture is of Chuck's folks and myself embarking on the cruise ship.  Where is Chuck?  He missed the boat.

The day before we were leaving to fly to Greece, Chuck realized he couldn't find his passport.  Luckily, Delta Airlines rerouted Chuck's ticket to New York City.  He then took the train to Philadelphia where he could obtain a replacement passport immediately.  

I flew on to meet his folks in Athens.  Chuck was a couple of days behind and missed boarding the cruise. However, when our ship docked in Istanbul, Turkey guess who met us?  

This worked out well because we were all together for most of the cruise.

On one of our trips to Germany we went to Salzburg.  This is where the movie, The Sound of Music was shot.  This photo is of the estate that was used in the movie as the home of Captain Von Trapp.

When Chuck and I went to Iguazu Falls in Argentina nine years ago, we were amazed at the butterflies.  They were everywhere.  They would land on you and stay on with you for a long time.

Dear Family and Friends,

Chuck's sister and her husband were missionaries in Rwanda and Burundi for many years.  After we retired, Chuck and I flew to Africa to spend a very special Christmas with them.

Rwanda is a poor country.

One day Chuck and I decided to walk around the country side, outside the mission compound.  As we walked, the children in the village followed us, they were laughing and so happy.  We could not understand a word they said but they were so friendly.  They were especially attracted to Chuck, not only because he had lighter skin, but because he had the white beard.  This day was so very special.

When we were in Santiago de Compostela, Spain we heard that St. James traveled in a stone boat to the Atlantic coast of Spain from the Holy Land.  Have you ever heard of stone boat?  We found this boat in China.  Of course it is stationary and is not a real boat.  Interesting though.
