The Loop

Dear Family and Friends,

I have not been posting on our blog recently.  I have just been letting Foto Friday keep us going.  But now it is time to share a few things with you.

I had surgery about two weeks after we returned from our trip.  All went well and I am doing fine.

The reason I had surgery so close to the time of our return to Cuenca is because I wanted to have enough time to heal before we head out again. More about that later.

Today, I will share one of our recent adventures.  Chuck and I take visitors on what we call the "loop."  It is a trip to Gualaceo, Chordeleg (and sometmes Sig Sig), we return through Paute and stop for lunch at Uzhupud.

A couple of weeks ago we took our friends, and now residents of Cuenca, on a "loop" trip.  We did not go to Sig Sig this time...the ladies main goal was to shop in Chordeleg for BLING.  We had a great time as you can see in the pictures below.

Here are Myrna and I with Carlos.  He owns the Joyeria Natali jewelry store located on the square.  He understands and speaks some English.  He was wearing his Kansas shirt because his daughter lives in Kansas.  He is a great fellow and I always like to visit his shop first.  He has first class jewelry.

Myrna clowning around with her new earrings.  She did first class shopping.  I had a hard time keeping up with her.

Myrna and Chuck clowning around in front of a mural in Chordeleg.

David not clowning around but looking quite handsome in front of another beautiful piece of art.

We visited the jewelry museum and watched a lady weaving a panama hat.  She was knitting at lighting speed and did not have to look at her fingers.  Amazing talent!

Here is a cute little girl who was nice enough to pose in front of this giant Chola puppet.

We finally ended up at Uzhupud, a nice hacienda outside of Paute for lunch.  The food was wonderful as usual.

We wondered around the grounds a bit and happened up on this museum of old equipment.  Here is Myrna checking out an old antique grain mill.

It was a fun day and no matter how many times we do this trip we always enjoy doing it again.  Especially with such fun people.

Love,
Nancy
