Two Weeks Already

Dear Family and Friends,

It is hard to believe that today we have been in Spain for two weeks. Looking back we have done quite a bit in the last two weeks.

Today we arrived in Leon.  We spent last night in Lugo.  I have a couple of days of pictures to share with you.

We are not driving far each day.  Also, we have been fortunate to be able to stay off the freeways the last couple of days.  We have been driving the back roads and many times over the exact roads that the pilgrims follow on their walk to Santiago.

This is the cathedral in Lugo.

Lugo's claim to fame is that there is a Roman wall totally surrounding the city.  It is very unusual for a city to still have the complete wall intact. The wall was built around 300AD.

Chuck and I climbed the steps to the top of the wall and walked around the city.

After visiting the cathedral, walking the wall and drinking holy white wine we called it a day.

This morning we drove to Leon.  We took the back way and loved it.  I don't think this is hardly even a road but we ended up on it.

This is why we like to take the out of the way routes.

Not sure what this family is growing....but it is interesting.

We stopped in a village called Villafranca.  There we saw this castle.  We could not go in, but we learned that it was built as a residence.  It was built in the 15th century for a duke.

We were walking a small road in this village when a small truck came and delivered a loaf of bread to this lady.  I asked if I could photograph her.  She was delighted.

When we got to a larger city we stopped to do some grocery shopping.  We buy snacks to much on along the way.

While we were there, Chuck said look at this.  He had spied some tuna that was canned in Manta, Ecuador and exported to Spain.  It was good to see a familiar label.

Today, in Leon we saw their Roman wall.  It does not go all around the city.  Like most towns that have a Roman wall still standing it was just about a block long.  The rest was gone.  Here is Chuck in front of Leon's wall.

And....you guessed it, we saw the cathedral.

Tomorrow we will drive to Burgos along the back roads.

Tonight we have to finish off that wine.

Love,
Nancy
