Beautiful Northern Scotland

Dear Family and Friends,

Our ship docked in Greenock, the port for Glasgow, Scotland.  However, we did not go to the city of Glasgow. Instead, we took a tour of the countryside. This proved to be a day of beautiful scenery and castles.

The first castle we saw, Kilchurn Castle, was a 15th century ruin.  It was awesome because we had to hike to get to it. The scenery and castle were beautiful.

Inside the castle ruins.

Looking back at the path we walked.  Beautiful countryside.

More beautiful scenery.

We visited another castle, Dunrobin Castle.  It has been here since the 13th century.  We were able to tour it, but no photography was allowed.  I would have loved to be able to share the inside, but the outside is great too.

Gardens out back and the sea beyond.  The Earls and Dukes of Sutherland really had it grand.

Chuck was nice enough to hike down to the garden to make this lovely picture of the back of the castle.

While down there he watched a man put on an incredible falconry show.

It was a wonderful tour.  The next day we saw more of northern Scotland.

I will share that with you in the next post.

Love,
Nancy

  1. I love your blog. My husband and I live in Saratoga, NY, and we enjoy traveling, and I stumbled across your blog about four years ago. Your Scotland pictures make me want to return there. I haven't traveled as extensively as you have, but I've enjoyed every country I've been in. We just returned from a wonderful trip to Spain. Your photos are great reminders of wonderful times. Thanks for blogging. Helen

    1. Helen, Thank you for your nice comment. I love taking photos and I love sharing about our travels. When I was young I never thought that I would be so fortunate to visit so many beautiful places and meet so many wonderful people in this world.

We love Spain and hope to return there some day. This is a big world and there are so many places left to visit AND we are not getting any younger.

Thank you for commenting, you made my day.
