Sunday in Madrid

Dear Family and Friends,

It is Sunday evening and we have our poor aching feet up.  This whole day was devoted to touring the Museo Nacional del Prada. It was well worth a couple of sore feet.

We started this morning by checking out a street market just outside our hotel.  The vendors were all selling some sort of clothing and by 10am there were tons of shoppers.  It only took us a few minutes to realize this is NOT how we wanted to spend the day.

We took the subway to the exit nearest the Prado Museum.  This museum is absolutely enormous and has one of the best collections of European art in the world.  On the way, we were entertained by this man, who played the harmonica for donations.

Before going to the museum we stopped at the Starbucks across the street from the museum for fortification.

Here is the outside of the museum.  I did not take any pictures inside.  First of all, I think it would be a big NO, NO.  And second, I wanted to lose myself in the gallery.

This is one of the most famous works of art in the museum.  It is "Las Meninas" by Velazquez.  This is the piece I wanted to see the most.  Here is a picture of it I found online to share.

We spent all day in the museum.....hours.  We stopped for a bite of lunch in their restaurant and went back to touring the museum for the rest of the day.  We did not see it all....it would be impossible to see the whole museum in one day.  We did put a big dent in it though.  We saw all the famous masterpieces.

Now we are back in our hotel room watching the sunset.  Check this out:

Tomorrow morning we take the train to San Sebastian.

Should be fun.....will share it with you tomorrow evening.

Love,
Nancy & Chuck
